On May 7, 2024, we welcomed around 100 decision-makers and experts from the fields of asset management, custodian banks, and technology at the Metropol Zürich for our event “Perspectives and Consensus: Enhancing Efficiency between EAMs, Custodian Banks, and Technology Providers.

The event provided a platform for in-depth discussions and the exchange of solutions based on the insights from the 2023 Efficiency Study conducted by EAM.Technology and HSLU-IFZ.

Recommendations and takeaways from the Efficiency Study 2023

In the presentation of the Efficiency Study 2023, concrete recommendations were presented to improve efficiency within the industry. For EAMs, a focus on core competencies and enhanced operational efficiency was recommended. Technology providers were advised to focus their product strategies and open their systems to reduce integration barriers. Custodian banks were encouraged to continuously develop their systems and respond quickly to market changes.

Status quo of the industry

Oliver Maas’s presentation focused on the current state of the industry. The latest figures, requirements, and challenges facing EAMs were highlighted. The presentation provided a comprehensive overview of the regulatory changes and technological innovations shaping the industry. The need to adapt to new circumstances was emphasized as a crucial factor for success. He also underscored the importance of staying agile in a rapidly evolving market environment. The discussion reinforced the idea that continuous innovation and flexibility are key to maintaining a competitive edge.

Approaches to solving challenges, analogies to the banking sector

In this presentation, innovative solutions to the existing challenges of the industry were presented. Using examples from the banking industry, successful strategies and best practices were highlighted that could also be applied in the EAM sector. The discussion emphasized the community approach, where pooling requirements and non-core services can lead to greater efficiencies and cost savings. This collective effort allows EAMs to focus on their core competencies while benefiting from shared resources and services.

In the panel discussion, experts exchanged their views on the opportunities and challenges of enhancing efficiency. They discussed how efficiency potentials could be realized through cooperation and the use of innovative technologies. The consensus among the participants was clear: an open and constructive dialogue is crucial to achieving common goals and advancing the industry as a whole.
